FOREHAND

It is an herbicide in the F2, B group according to the FOREHAND mode of action classification. Mesotrione is a compound in the Triketones chemical class. It is a selective, systemic herbicide taken up by leaves and roots and transported acropetally and basipetally in the phloem and the xylem. It is a p-Hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor that ultimately affects carotenoid biosynthesis. Nicosulfuron, on the other hand, is an ALS and AHAS inhibitor in the Sulfonylurea chemical group. It acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of the essential amino acids valine and isoleucine, thus stopping cell division and plant growth. It exhibits selective systemic herbicidal action with rapid translocation to meristematic tissues in the xylem and phloem, absorbed by leaves and roots. FOREHAND is used after emergence against broad and narrow leaf weeds that are a problem in corn fields with the synergistic effect of these two different groups of active substances. Symptoms are whitening of the leaves followed by necrosis of the meristematic tissue.
